The workshop

Learn to turn a RAW file into a finished photograph

Learn to turn a RAW file into a finished photograph, without losing the naturalness of the scene. We will work through the full editing flow in Lightroom: exposure, contrast, color, detail, focus and selective adjustments, along with organizing your library and building efficient workflows.

Editing should support your photographic intention, not replace it. With guided practice on real files so that every concept ends up in your own hands.

Why take this workshop

Three reasons to work on your editing with me

Hands-on lessons

Every concept is shown applied to real files, step by step, so you can repeat it on your own photographs.

Clear recommendations on Lightroom and workflow, so you make the most of what you already have and know what is worth adding.

Nature, community and creative flow

A space built around nature photography, to edit with intention, find your own voice and share the process with others.

What you will learn

A complete editing flow, from start to finish

We will go through the whole process, from understanding the file to giving it its final atmosphere, making deliberate decisions at every step.

  • Editing fundamentals: what each adjustment does and how to read an image before touching it.
  • Exposure and contrast: recovering information, balancing highlights and shadows and giving body to the image.
  • Color: temperature, hue and harmonies to work color with naturalness and coherence.
  • Detail and sharpness: sharpening, texture and noise reduction without hardening the photograph.
  • Focus of attention: guiding the viewer's eye and reinforcing the point of interest.
  • Selective and local adjustments: masks and targeted corrections to work area by area.
  • Library organization and workflow: importing, sorting and finding your files, and building an efficient process.
  • Creative decisions: giving depth, atmosphere and consistency to your editing.

Beginner and intermediate level. You do not need previous editing experience. If you know the basics of your camera, you will get even more out of the workshop.

Portrait of Jhonattan Vanegas, biologist and nature photographer

Who teaches you?

Jhonattan Vanegas

I am a biologist, herpetologist and nature photographer. A large part of my life has been devoted to observing, photographing and sharing what I learn about the natural world.

In editing I look for the same thing I look for in the field: to respect what I saw. Editing is not there to invent a scene, but to finish telling what was already there.

In this workshop I want to help you build your own workflow, with judgment and calm, so your photographs look the way you remember them.
